Smoke Alarm Installation on the Sunshine Coast
Keep your family safe with compliant smoke alarms
Need smoke alarms installed, upgraded, or made compliant? DYFA Electrical installs interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms across the Sunshine Coast, from Caloundra to Noosa and out to Gympie. As fully licensed electricians, we make sure your home meets Queensland law. From 1 January 2027, every Queensland home must have compliant interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms. If your alarms are older, not interconnected, or past their ten-year mark, now is the time to sort it, before the deadline rush. We can assess what you have and get you compliant in a single visit.

What counts as a compliant smoke alarm in QLD?
- Under Queensland law, smoke alarms in your home must be:
- Photoelectric (they detect smouldering smoke faster than old ionisation alarms)
- Interconnected (when one sounds, they all sound), either hardwired or wireless
- Hardwired or powered by a non-removable 10-year battery
- Installed in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms, and on every storey
If that does not describe your current setup, your home is not yet compliant. Our team can assess your existing smoke alarms and advise on any upgrades needed to meet Queensland’s requirements. For more information, read our guide to the QLD smoke alarm laws.
If your home already has hardwired smoke alarms, replacements must also be hardwired.

Why choose DYFA for your smoke alarms

A lot of smoke alarm companies are not electricians. We are. That matters, because compliant alarms are often hardwired, and if your switchboard needs attention we can handle that in the same visit. You get one licensed team for the whole job, a fixed price before we start, and a 100% satisfaction guarantee, backed by our 5-star rating across 100-plus reviews.
Smoke Alarms and your Switchboard
Hardwiring interconnected alarms draws on your home’s wiring, and older Sunshine Coast homes sometimes need a switchboard upgrade or a dedicated circuit to do it safely. We check this as part of the assessment and can do any electrical work in the same visit. Learn more about our switchboard upgrades.
